Tuesday Song: “As Long As My Mind Will Obey”

This song is from the perspective of someone losing her memory. Maybe Alzheimers or dementia – she has memories, but isn’t quite sure if they’re real or not.

I can’t quite remember
I cannot quite see
What it was I wanted from you
‘Cause everyone’s so busy
And sometimes I get lost
Before you know it, it’s all through

I guess so, anyway
At least that’s what I’ll say
Just as long as my mind will obey

I was once a cowgirl
At least or so I think
I drove cattle across the range
I lived through Prohibition
My friends died in the war
But somehow this seems much more strange

I guess so, anyway
At least that’s what I’ll say
Just as long as my mind will obey

Hello, I love you all
Your names, I cannot quite recall

Does it make a difference
If there is a past
Or if it’s all just in my mind?
I feel like I’m floating
Gently on the sea
Come on in, the water’s fine

I guess so, anyway
At least that’s what I’ll say
Just as long as my mind will obey
