A Song a Day: “Unbearable”

I’ve been trying to write a song a day, and I’ve decided to start sharing them as I write them. I make no promises about the quality of the songs (only the quantity). Here’s one I wrote today – it was inspired when a friend posted a quote from an Anne Carson poem, “I want to be unbearable.”

Well, I guess I’m sick
It’s like a trick the light plays with your eyes
I always act so kind
‘Til I’m behind your back where the truth lies

It’s like a disconnect
We intersect and feel the pull
I want to be unbearable

I do try not to lie
I am that guy who’s got an open heart
But there are places so
Cold, I won’t go – it all just falls apart

It’s like a disconnect
We intersect and feel the pull
I want to be unbearable

Where can this lead?
What else could I need?

So here now, this is me
That’s what you’ll see when you look in my eyes
I don’t care what you think
Fine, make a stink, but I won’t tell no lies

It’s like a disconnect
We intersect and feel the pull
I want to be unbearable
